At XLR we take pride in supporting those who support us. When Sam let us know he was starting the barrel burner App we knew it was going to be a slam dunk! Sam Carlson is a seasoned long-range competitive shooter, match director, and XLR Pro Team shooter.
Sam and Kurtis recently launched the Barrel Burner App. They built this tool from scratch between family and work to help shooters monitor round counts, reloading components, suppressor cleaning, and barrel cleaning. Named for the reality of high-volume competition shooting, the Barrel Burner helps keep firearms competition-ready. Please join us in celebrating Sam’s dedication on the range and supporting his new venture..

Early 2023 we got together to discuss our troubles keeping up with match schedules, maintenance, and keeping up with stocking reloading components. Together, we came up with an idea that was originally for our own use. We needed to keep track of work firearms as well as our personal ones to ensure they were clean, barrels still have life (a 300 PRC burns out rather quickly!), and to ensure we have enough ammo!
We built the app from scratch, taking tons of time at night working through kinks and crashes while we keep our day jobs and have families.
Why is it called the “Barrel Burner"?
Some firearm enthusiasts might burn out a barrel or 2 in their lifetime. Firearm barrels are like your car’s tires. Putting miles on them will eventually lead to them needing replaced. Competition shooters like Kurtis and myself, will shoot roughly 5,000 rounds a year between competitions, practice, and load development. Keeping track of round count, component usage, and cleaning is super important when shooting at that volume.

Two of the most popular cartridges for PRS/NRL:
6mm Dasher - The barrel life is roughly 1,800-2,300rds. Some of the best shooters out there will pull the barrel (take off) when it gets to 1,800rds so they don’t risk accuracy issues at a national level match.
6.5 Creedmoor - The barrel life is roughly 3,000rds. Yes, the internet might say something else!
Being able to track round counts on your barrels, firearm components, suppressors, and reloading/ammo components was the overall goal. We hope you enjoy!
